What Should I Blog About? Ideas For Timely Content: Week of August 13

Did you wake up this morning and ask "What Should I Blog About?" Then it's likely you missed my series on creating content calendars so you'll never be left without ideas. Tisk tisk!

What Should I Blog About?

But since news comes fast and trends change faster, I'll cut you a break and offer up my weekly list of content ideas that anyone can make their own. If you're having trouble seeing the connection between your industry and these topics, leave a comment below so we can brainstorm together.

Shark Week 2012
Here's something to cure your post-Olympic blues: the 25th year of Discovery's Shark Week kicked off last night, and not only is the subject lighting up Google Trends, but it's also been trending on Twitter. How can you twist this trend to fit your industry? If you needed some inspiration, check out their "Shark Week Survival Guide that lists six things to do during Shark Week. Can you come up with your own list with a twist? Take a look at the broadcast schedule - is there anything that jumps out at you?

Winter Olympics 2014
The 2012 London Olympics may have just exhaled during the closing ceremonies last night, but ravenous sports fans are already searching for information on the 2014 Winter Olympics, which is being held in Sochi, Russia starting on February 7th, 2014. Travel and sports writers should be cranking out the city previews and early favorites this week. Even if you don't write about sports, we've covered lots of ways to leave your mark on the Olympic theme. Go to town.

Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston
These two got engaged. Now's a good time to talk about wedding anything - fashion, etiquette, invitations, gifts, whatever. Just be sure to mention Jen and Justin in your opening sentence.

Relaxation Day
Wednesday is "Relaxation Day" - how will you be spending it? How will you be covering it? I'd love to know about: foods and workouts that help you relax, varieties of teas, awesome pajamas, most relaxing places in the world, how to create your own relaxation sanctuary at home, how to make your office a calm and relaxing space, scents that keep you calm, how to schedule time for more relaxation, a list of recommended books to relax with, colors that help keep you calm and relaxed (then apply those to home or fashion), why gardening is the best activity for relaxation (or is it?) . . . I think you get the picture.

In the comments below, I'd love to know two things:
  1. Do these "What Should I Blog About?" posts help you? Would you like to see more of them?
  2. What are you covering this week? What topics could you use some help with? Let's talk it out and brainstorm together in the comments.
